How Did The Slaves Resist?

Writer's picture: AMANDA ERICKSONAMANDA ERICKSON

Slaves in Colombia would resist by protests, but sometimes slaves would be able to buy back their freedom by their hard work and effort. What was very common though was escaping, Afro- Colombians built communities of other escaped slaves and these were called "Palenque." Many of the Palenques were torn down but one still exists to this day. What is a Palenque anyways? It is a community built by escaped Afro-Colombian slaves where they would celebrate and be thankful of their African roots. Even slaves who didn't escape tried to attempt to find the Palenque.
